Welcome to the secret world of decorative painting! If ever scenic artists thought they were not recognised as a career pathway, many people will have walked right on by decorative painting many times during their life and not noticed, but then thats sometimes the point!
When looking at my project proposal i want to create a resource for the students that collates the information that is available on websites, books, YouTube and professionals experience and knowledge. The faux forum is one site that I’m looking at to gauge the strengths and weaknesses of a forum style that could form the model for my resource.
My initial intentions for the resource would be that it is extremely accessible for all types of learners. My first thoughts on the forum is that it is fantastic to have so many people talking and interacting, from beginners to industry professionals. And on all topics such as materials, tools and techniques and sharing work photographs. My negative is that although the discussion boards are divided up into categories (which i like) the information has no organisation beyond this and it presented by post date:
The Website does have a search function:
But if a student doesn’t know what to search for, how do they access the right information? By trawling through maybe thousands of posts? Also disappointedly the forum doesn’t have an page for book resources or material suppliers or tools.
Overall I like the interaction with professionals and amateurs and this forum format is something I would like to incorporate into my own resource. I really like that people can contribute their knowledge and experience, its not one person supplying the content. But I feel more embed video content, more pictures and information will engage the students about their subject and not leave them feeling that there is an impossible wealth of knowledge out there.
